The Reform UK leader Accuses Educators of ‘Indoctrinating Children’ on Race Issues

Nigel Farage has asserted that teachers would go on strike within weeks a success at the polls for his party, accusing them of “poisoning our kids” by telling children that black pupils are victims and white children oppressors.

During an event for a private US Christian college, Farage outlined his perspective on British schools, claiming that the “Marxist left” had “now in control of our education system”.

“I’m anticipating a walkout by educators soon after securing a victory,” Farage commented during a Q&A session.

“They are corrupting young minds. They are telling them to feel guilt about their nation. They are telling an eight-year-old black child that he is a victim and a white child of the same age that he is a perpetrator. They are dividing us, not uniting us. They promote this harmful mindset.”

In response to Farage’s claims, the head of a major education union dismissed the idea that the schools were under Marxist influence as “absurd”. Kebede noted that industrial action must relate to educators’ working conditions, and doubted whether Reform would attack these right after taking office.

“Farage has built his public life on coded rhetoric and currently, like Trump, he is lining up teachers and their organizations for a conflict,” Kebede stated.

“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. I don’t – and nor does my union – push critical race theory as he’s suggesting … If he were to lead the government he would sell out our public services, particularly schooling … and he would be a disaster for education and children.”

Reform, which tops surveys by about 10 points, has not set out much detail on a proposed education policy and seems not to have designated an education lead.

However, Farage’s remarks indicated the party would overhaul the educational framework. He said: “We have got a massive job with education – truly monumental. And, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it requires years, years to turn this around.”

He stated that younger generations are receptive to analytical thought, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.

Honoring a conservative activist, Farage said: “My goal for schooling is to foster independent thought – to instruct people that multiple perspectives exist and they should decide for themselves rather than what’s happening now where views are labeled good or bad. It’s a massive job in the UK and US.”

Reform has previously clashed with the UK’s largest teaching union, after the union leader labeled them “extremist and prejudiced” and dismissed Farage as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.

Farage has accused Kebede of being “an avowed radical” … an individual intent that our children should be poisoned through education, their thinking tainted regarding national issues” and maintained that the union is trying to indoctrinate youth opposed to his party.

Roughly a million individuals work in schools in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The major education union has hundreds of thousands of members.

Countrywide walkouts over educators’ salaries and work environment in 2023 caused widespread disruption in schools and millions of days of lost learning for children.

At the US event, the Reform leader also vowed to promote the online educational material of the Christian college in the UK. He stated such groups were “part of the fightback”, adding that: “I am serious. I’ll assist attract vast numbers of young people to these educational programs. I make that commitment now and I will follow through.”

The college, a religious educational establishment, provides complimentary classes. According to its online description: “Comprehensive learning is necessary for personal happiness and to perpetuate the blessings of freedom. The college furnishes these beautiful courses for free to every interested learner.”
