The President Invites Families of Shot National Guard Members to White House
President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he has asked the family of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to attend the executive mansion.
He mentioned that he spoke to her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Information on the Tragic Incident
Specialist Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a attack on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her fellow service member, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in grave state.
Vigils across the state have been held in their honor.
White House Invitation
The commander-in-chief stated he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the families of both individuals of the West Virginia Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a difficult moment, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” the president told journalists. “And likewise with him, recover or not.”
Community Reaction
Community members assembled over the past few days at the high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been serving with the state guard as part of the president’s national effort to assist policing efforts in Washington DC.
Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the individual that teachers hoped for. She behaved with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that inspired people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of her alma mater, told the media. “She was caring, caring and always willing to assist people.”
Funeral arrangements for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Legal Measures and Policy Changes
Officials have accused a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with a charge of homicide and two counts of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The incident prompted the Trump administration to suspend asylum applications and temporarily stop providing visas to holders of travel documents.
Condition of the Airman
Andrew Wolfe, a native of the city, enlisted in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, as reported by the AP.
He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor Patrick Morrisey stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi told Fox News Sunday that she aimed to meet with Wolfe’s family.
Impact of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County High in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a MP with distinction, according to the military.
“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had courage,” the governor told the crowd at the service. “Though her life was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
