Israelis have assembled around the country to commemorate 24 months since the Hamas-led offensive on that fateful day in October 2023, as discussions continued in the neighboring country over an end to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The assault saw more than 1,200 people dead and 251 others abducted back to Gaza as hostages. It was the single deadliest day for Jews since the Second World War.

Israel responded by initiating a military offensive in Gaza which has killed over 67,000 people, according to the territory's Hamas-run health ministry. Its statistics are seen as reliable by the UN and other international bodies.

"The violent enemies have struck forcefully, but they have not broken us," the leader stated on Tuesday.

He also promised to "achieve all the objectives of the war: the homecoming of all the captured, the destruction of the Hamas government and the guarantee that Gaza will no longer create a danger to Israel".

Commemorative Events Across Israel

The government authorities delayed official remembrance events until mid-October - after the end of the festive season - but gatherings still were held throughout the country on Tuesday.

A commemorative event for the relatives of Israelis who lost their lives in the Hamas attack was conducted in the coastal city. Organized by the families themselves, it was televised throughout Israeli television channels.

A period earlier, a silent tribute was observed around the country.

Peace Meetings in Egypt

Meanwhile, both sides' negotiating teams met in the Egyptian tourist destination of the negotiation venue for a follow-up session of indirect talks to review the conditions of the plan.

A prominent representative knowledgeable about the discussions indicated that an night meeting of indirect talks started at evening in Egypt.

The official explained the day's discussions ended without significant progress, due to disagreements over the recommended Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas wants to make certain Israel does not restart hostilities after the opening period of the arrangement.

He commented that the negotiations are "difficult and have yet to produce any major advancement," but noted that mediators are striving to narrow the differences between the both parties.

Essential Issues in Negotiations

  • A lasting ceasefire
  • The swap of the hostages still kept by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Measures for humanitarian aid deliveries
  • Future administration of the region

Citizen Feeling

In the city's Hostages Square that day, young Hagar - whose family member endured the incident on the Nova music festival, where 378 people were murdered and many more were taken hostage by Hamas militants - told: "No place seems like home any longer and until every captive come back none of us will feel safe."

"When we see everybody home once more, we can relax anew. Then we can start to rebuild," she continued.

Outside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's residence in Jerusalem, people assembled to demonstrate their support for the families of the hostages. Israel says forty-eight stay in confinement in Gaza, 20 of whom are considered to be living.

Activist Atalia Regev explained: "We must do any agreement necessary for the captives to be released. But we sincerely need guarantees that we will be protected."

Research now consistently show that about seventy percent of Israeli citizens want the conflict to conclude in as payment for the liberation of the hostages.

Palestinian Circumstances

At the location of the gathering, mourners came together to honor the dead.

From there, the sound of military attacks and artillery could be heard just a short distance away in Gaza, where witnesses indicated the heavy Israeli bombardment persisted.

In the main city, bombardments were documented in the dawn of that day in the west side neighborhood, Rimal and zone districts and in the eastern district of that sector, as well the camp to the northwest.

"When the night arrives, the fear appears with it," evacuated Gaza City resident a local woman, whose young son was lost his life by an Israeli air strike earlier, shared.

"We are afraid of the air strikes. During nighttime we are resting together, clinging, especially my smallest child who puts his head on me all night."

"Constantly we check the updates to see the situation. And I'm afraid that this halt will not be completed and that the conflict will resume to us."

Health Situation

The healthcare center in the urban area said it had taken in the bodies of six people by the daytime, including three who died in an Israeli strike in the south part district.

A different healthcare center in the southern city of that area reported additional fatalities had been delivered. A person was died by Israeli soldiers while seeking aid to the south, health workers reported.

The territory's health ministry said 25 of the {territ
