The ice cream brand's Founding Partner States Parent Company Halted Pro-Palestinian Frozen Dessert Flavor
One of the co-founders of the well-known ice cream brand Ben & Jerry's has stated how corporate owner Unilever prevented the introduction for a new Palestine-themed frozen dessert product.
The entrepreneur, that established the business alongside Jerry Greenfield, revealed that he plans to personally create the controversial flavor within an individual collection highlighting issues Ben & Jerry's was prevented from addressing publicly.
Longstanding Dispute Involving Creators versus Parent Company
This latest development intensifies the continuing disagreement among the world-famous dessert company with Unilever, the British packaged goods corporation which has owned Ben & Jerry's for over two decades.
Both founders maintain how Unilever and their ice cream division Magnum unlawfully blocked their company against "fulfilling its ethical commitments".
The Fruit Sorbet as a Symbol of Support
The entrepreneur announced through social media how he's developing an innovative watermelon-flavored frozen dessert, requesting public suggestions for the product's name and additional components.
“I'm accomplishing what they couldn't,” the founder declared in a cooking set. “I'm creating a watermelon-flavored frozen dessert that advocates for lasting ceasefire for Palestinians and calls for addressing the harm that occurred in the region.”
The watermelon has emerged as an emblem for support for the Palestinian people because of its coloration, that match those of Palestine's national banner – the distinctive four-color pattern.
Historical Activism plus Current Developments
Several years ago, the ice cream company ceased sales of their merchandise in territories occupied by Israel, leading to the parent company transferring their Israel business over to a local licensee, thereby permitting ongoing distribution within the occupied West Bank.
The new dessert series is being created through Ben's Best, the socially conscious ice cream brand which originally established several years back for endorsing ex- US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders with the flavor "Bernie's Back".
Leadership Shifts plus Upcoming Plans
The founder stated how he plans to create additional ice cream flavors that address issues which Ben & Jerry's was prevented from speaking about openly by Unilever.
The announcement comes after partner Jerry Greenfield stepped down his position at Ben & Jerry's recently, following decades of involvement, citing worries that the company's autonomy was undermined after Unilever's decision to restrict its social activism.
Previously, Ben Cohen remarked how "Jerry has strong compassion and the ongoing dispute with Unilever was breaking it."
“My conscience leads me to continue to work within the organization to fight for its independence ensuring that it can actualise the social mission, the principles which it was founded on and has maintained for over 40 years," he explained to media outlets.
