Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure French Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the prestigious cup on 14 separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown between the French league champions and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the net early on.

Yet, Marseille struck twice late to take a surprise advantage. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital leveler in the dying moments to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing penalty victory.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
