New Year's Revelers Urged to Bundle Up with Wintry Weather Forecast Throughout the UK
Meteorologists have indicated a frosty start to the new year, with wintry precipitation expected over large parts of the UK. Revelers have been told to bundle up as sub-zero temperatures are expected for New Year's Eve.
Hogmanay Celebrations Proceed Amid Forecasts
The Scottish capital's iconic Hogmanay events are planned to go ahead, a contrast to last year's calling-off. This comes despite yellow warnings for snow in northern Scotland.
"A chilly New Year's Eve evening for those who are celebrating, so extra layers will be necessary," said the weather service.
Fireworks Under Mostly Clear but Frosty Skies
Across the UK, the weather is expected to be suited to fireworks displays, with dry conditions and good visibility. Temperatures are due to be cold, making warm wraps vital, according to forecasters.
Further north, skies will be more overcast, but this is unlikely to hamper visibility for watching fireworks. "We are not looking at low cloud, mist or murk, so you should be able to see fireworks, just not stars," remarked one forecaster.
Extensive Advisories for Friday
Moving into Friday, weather warnings are in place for Northern Ireland and extending from Wales, through the north-west, the West Midlands and through to London and the majority of the south-east of England.

Temperatures Set to Plummet Further
Going into the new year, it will be "frosty everywhere where you are," stated forecaster Simon Partridge. Temperatures are forecast to plummet as snowfall and high winds are predicted to affect the north of the country.
About 10cm of snow could accumulate to have settled in some areas by Friday morning, reaching up to 30cm on the top roads and uplands.
Public Health Warnings Released
Meanwhile, amber-level health advisories are in force for the north-east and north-west of England. These are expected to remain in place until noon on 5 January, with the mercury expected to fall to between 3C and 5C.
Authorities stated this signified the weather was expected to lead to notable consequences across health and social care services. This involves a potential rise in the mortality rate among vulnerable individuals or those aged 65 or over.
