Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL side.

Departure from Munich was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s attacking options. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
