Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Ignites Heated Debates Over Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a new playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but includes several key adjustments:

  • Every squad includes just 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions done by real players award complete experience points, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.

In short, this mode lives up to its name: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it gives additional choices for players looking for different methods to have fun with the game. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many BF6 fans are upset.

Community Reactions: From Fury to Support

"People want human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," states a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments another. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and someone else details all the issues they consider to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this game all the time. Let them strike a balance," states a different comment. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," and another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Criticisms and Player Feedback

Despite the support, players have valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase wait times even longer for other modes because of the large amount of options in the game already. Similarly, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Lastly, a major complaints is that a previous feature was meant to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the community compromising in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?

If the development team has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data shows this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
