Arne Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's expected for questions to be raised about his position following a further heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in twelve games, marking the club's worst streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing evening at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received a lot of support from above,” Slot commented.
“It's important to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it is normal that people question you.”
He continued, “I accept my role. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with The Board
When asked to provide details on his discussions with the team officials, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they back me.”
He added, “In the normal discussions I perceive the belief. But I've not talked to them after this game yet so we'll see.”
Recurring Issues and Player Response
Slot expressed regret over recurring shortcomings from his team in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a period like this with results this poor.”
He concluded, “However we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we’re always going to compete.”
“We will attempt to help the side return to the top, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”
“But right now, things are bad and it must improve.”
